Iga Swiadek spent 125 weeks at world ranking place 1 – but in the final of Wimbledon she is now in her career for the first time. Belinda Bencic didn’t have much to oppose at 2: 6, 0: 6.
Despite leaving the semi -finals, the tournament was a great success for the unsettled Swiss woman: the Tokyo Olympic champion had a baby break, her daughter Bella was born in April of last year.
Blitzstart from Swiatek
Swiadek caught a lightning start into the game, immediately put pressure on the baseline and immediately made the first break: 3-0 led the Polish before Bencic was able to play out her strengths: good anticipation, sometimes courage to go to the net when she recognized that Swiatek was too short with her blows.
After 22 minutes, the Swiss climbed her fist for the first time after shortening to 1: 3. However, she no longer succeeded in the turn in the first sentence, even if the rallies were far from being as one -sided as the result suggested.
False start in the second set too
But also in the second round, Swiatek always made the crucial points. The still world ranking-list was no trouble during their own service games, but even if Bencic served, the balance of power was now cleared.
It was only when the situation appeared rather hopeless when the situation appeared quite hopeless, a few spectacular points came back to the Swiss. But ultimately it wasn’t enough to create the break against Swiatek. Swiadek just didn’t give up, kept the concentration mercilessly high at any time and converted her second match ball after 1:11 hours.
