The mascot of RBC Roosendaal is in urgent need of a makeover. “Boy Buffel is 25 years old. His ears are made of old black socks. A hole behind his ears is glued and the suit is hot, even without summer temperatures,” says volunteer Sylvia van Hassel of the freshly promoted Roosendaal football club.
A new suit costs 3000 euros. That money hope to get volunteers together in the third division with crowdfunding. The counter is on Tuesday at 1800 euros. Everywhere in the football station there are savings buses and QR codes with which you can deposit digital money.
Uncomfortable
“The suit is really finished,” adds daughter Fleur. She is usually in the suit. Boy Bufffel’s mouth feels the uncomfortable. “The mouth is open and then you look straight at me when you are standing in front of me. That really can’t.”
At that time, children receive gym classes on the field of RBC. When seeing Boy Buffel, the attention was immediately shifted to the mascot. Cheerfulness and High Five’s are a logical follow -up. “That’s what makes it so fun,” says Fleur. “Children but also adults are always happy to see you.
Old sock
“The magic only disappears a bit when they get closer,” says Fleur. “They see my worn hands, they recognize black socks and sometimes see the stuck hole behind the ear. The worst, they look at me in the eye.”
The wish list for a completely new suit for Boy Buffel is clear. Yet Fleur still has an addition; ventilation. “I even lose liters of liters in this suit without tropical temperatures. If the new boy buffalo gets a little less sweaty, I can pop extra for supporters and players from RBC.” The old suit then gets a place of honor among all other memories of RBC.
