The German champion EHC Red Bull Munich opens the 30th season of the German ice hockey league on September 14th against the Düsseldorfer EG. The DEL announced this when the new schedule was announced.

For the former national coach Toni Söderholm, the game against the eight-time German champion is the debut as a DEL coach. The 45-year-old Finn is Don Jackson’s successor. “With DEG we have an extremely attractive opponent right from the start in our own arena”said Soderholm.

The 2023/2024 season will again feature 14 teams, resulting in 52 match days in the main round. The German champion should be determined by April 30, 2024 at the latest. Then a possible seventh playoff final is to be played. Four games will take place on Saturday evenings in the coming season, for the first time on September 30th the traditional duel between the Kölner Haie and the Adlern Mannheim.

As with the announcement of the schedule of the German Football League, there was now a breakdown in the DEL. At least the Schwenninger Wild Wings club schedule was visible online, at least temporarily, before the planned announcement of the league. According to DEL, the reason for the breakdown was not with the league. Meanwhile, screenshots of the entire first two matchdays were also circulating via Twitter in advance – which ultimately turned out to be true.
