Ice hockey: DEB women are looking forward to the German Cup premiere

The women’s national ice hockey team is looking forward to its premiere at the Germany Cup.

“The team has the feeling that their sport is being noticed. It is important that the players realize: We are seen,” said women’s national coach Jeff MacLeod in Landshut, where the traditional home tournament of the German Ice Hockey Association is taking place on Wednesday starts. “I can feel that the energy is completely different now.”

For the first time, in addition to the men’s team, the women’s national team is also taking part in its own tournament. This is intended to increase awareness of women’s ice hockey. The German women start on Wednesday against Denmark (7:45 p.m./MagentaSport).

Other opponents are Finland on Friday and the Czech Republic on Saturday. “It’s also something special for the players to play in front of at least 1,000 spectators,” said MacLeod. Normally only a few hundred spectators come to women’s games. The organizers have so far sold over 2,000 tickets for the all-women’s game day on Friday.
