The Italian tennis player had to allow the German number 3 in the world several break points in front of his own audience in Turin, but cleared them all. The four-time Grand Slam champion struck at the right moments: 6-4 6-3.

Sinner (24) had enough breaks at the end of the first set and in the sixth game of the second set to win. The Italian previously defeated Félix Auger-Aliassime, Zverev defeated Ben Shelton. Zverev still has to secure his last semi-final place in the last group match with Auger-Aliassime, Sinner will meet Shelton.

Sinner won the year-end tournament last year by beating American Taylor Fritz in the final.
