Is FC Bayern strengthening itself with a former Bundesliga star? At least this one is on the list if a starting defender were to leave.

FC Bayern’s personnel planning appears to be in full swing. The contract with Dayot Upamecano should definitely be extended beyond 2026. However, because Real Madrid should have a say about the Frenchman, Bayern have already put out feelers for a replacement. At least that’s what “Bild” reports.

Accordingly, the German record champions have held talks with the management of Ibrahima Konaté – an old acquaintance from the Bundesliga. Konaté played at RB Leipzig from 2017 to 2021 before moving on to Liverpool FC. His contract there runs until the summer of 2026. Bayern could get him for a free transfer. In addition to the Munich team, Real and Paris St. Germain are also said to be interested in the Frenchman.

Despite contacting Konaté, the priority seems to be on extending Upamecano. According to the pay-TV broadcaster Sky, the aim is to extend the agreement until at least 2030.
