In a major article in the Story, Gerard Joling is tackled really hard by Sandra Kim, who won the Eurovision Song Contest for Belgium when she was thirteen with J’aime la vie. “Egocentrism.”

The song J’aime La Vie is also very well known in our country and singer Sandra Kim has managed to survive in showbiz for forty years since then. “She cannot say that about Gerard Joling, for whom she has few words of praise,” writes the Story this week. And in the subsequent article she indeed rages against the singer.

Modest

Sandra points out that she has always remained modest. “For me, small moments with family and friends are more important than fame or trophies,” she says in the magazine.

She continues: “I was shocked when Gerard Joling showed his house on TV in the reality show Only Joling. It was like a museum, with his head on every wall. I don’t like so much egocentrism.”

No photos

She would never want a room like Gerard’s, according to Sandra. “There is not one gold record in my home and the photos on the wall focus on my family, not my work. I never dreamed of becoming a professional singer.”

She continues: “Singing was always my hobby, something I did for myself. The fact that I am now doing this work and have been in the profession for almost 40 years is special, but I have never let the Eurovision Song Contest or other highlights determine my life.”

Shopping

Sandra ostentatiously hints that she would not be able to walk normally in Belgium because of that one song at the music festival. “I prefer to shop in Amsterdam or Paris, because then I am not approached on the street every five minutes.”

She concludes: “In a restaurant I prefer to sit in a quiet and dark corner so that people do not immediately recognize me. I prefer somewhere incognito than having the red carpet rolled out for me.”

Well, very good, very normal. Applause!
