FOOTBALL – Not for HZVV again. PKC’83 makes a mature impression in Hoogeveen and beats HZVV with clear figures: 0-3. After one stable year, relegation football is now threatening again for FC Volendam of Drenthe.
After years of ‘back and forth’ between the first division and the fourth division, the Hoogeveen Saturday football players want nothing more than to perform stably. However, HZVV still had only one win after nine games played, achieved against Hoogland at the end of August. And so Bram Freie’s team longs for success. Notably absent is Yoran Popovic. The striker is back in the selection, but will not start. At the point of attack is Sander Dzemidzic, with Joël Zweerink not far behind.
In the first half hour there is little of note to note in Hoogeveen. A low effort by Lorenzo Valente is blocked and Xander Jager sees a high cross blow over the crossbar. There are also great opportunities for both teams. After Valente loses the ball, PKC left winger Willem Bel’s bet is touched. From the corner kick, Rob Schokker, the block of concrete at the point of the Groningen attack, hits the ball completely free but only halfway. Opportunities that the top scorer, who has already scored eight goals in the fourth division, normally uses carefully.
HZVV should also score, when Melik Ismail is sent deep. His marker lacks speed and the rebound is not for Jens van Rooijen. Then PKC’83 will strike. A smooth combination in the penalty area ends with Peter van Son: 0-1. Two minutes later, good-old Omar Kovak gets a dot of a chance, after Schokker’s extension. Before half time, HZVV makes a quick start, but Zweerink and Dzemidzic do not score.
Not far after the break, it was time for Yoran Popovic’s entrance, to give extra strength to the hunt for the equalizer. Popovic has just returned from South Africa, where he spent two weeks celebrating his wedding.
However, two minutes after the striker’s entrance, the ball is again behind Xander Jager. HZVV cannot get the ball away from a corner kick. Rob Schokker benefits and brings his season total to nine.
The only big chance that HZVV gets comes from Joël Zweerink, but Sven Bakker’s save is excellent. A final offensive fails to materialize and Popovic cannot be reached. In fact, Willem Bel provides extra salt in the wounds in injury time and so the concerns for Bram Freie and his team grow.
