Mönchengladbach (dpa) – Borussia Mönchengladbach’s new sports director Roland Virkus does not completely rule out the possibility of coach Adi Hütter leaving in the summer, despite a contract that runs until the summer of 2024.

He therefore wanted to “take it easy” with the Austrian, announced Virkus. He wants to clarify open questions: “Does the coach accept the changed circumstances? What are his transfer wishes? Can he identify with the club’s goals? You have to talk about that. In the end, we can find a common path.” However, Virkus also emphasized that he had not yet received any signals from Hütter that he wanted to leave the club again.
Virkus’ predecessor Max Eberl, who left the club in a precarious sporting situation at the beginning of the year, signed Hütter for 7.5 million euros from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer. Apparently, Hütter was also made promises that could not be kept due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Also due to the transfer backlog, last year’s Champions League round of 16 was at times even in danger of relegation this season. Virkus now explained that he had to reduce personnel costs. Squad planner Steffen Korell recently announced that players who would have to be handed over could not be adequately replaced in terms of quality.
