Hundreds of readers have found it in the Drenthe history quiz

‘Eureka’ was the theme of History Month. It can be translated as ‘I found it’ and that was the result of the Drenthe History Quiz, which was presented on October 7 by Dagblad van het Noorden. The letter puzzlers could also come up with other plausible solutions, but almost 900 readers submitted the correct ones to compete for a prize.

The quiz questions concerned Drenthe inventors, inventions and finds. We will go through them briefly, with the correct answers and the question number in bold.

In 1893, Tettje Jolles was the first girl admitted to the school gymnasium (1) . We know about the existence of Emmenaar Jaap Haartsen bluetooth (2) to thank. Weatherman Jan Pelleboer lived there until his death in 1992 Paterswolde (3) . Albert Sutherland Royaards had the Amboina nursery in Assen, before he even started deaf (4) started traveling the world by bicycle. Pesse’s canoe was kept in the canoe for some time after its discovery cold room of a fish shop (56) . Titia Brongersma dug one in the seventeenth century dolmen (6) on. Bene Dubbelboer used during the war peat (7) to run an engine. The lopifit was invented by Brown Mountain Master (8) from Valthe. DOMO stands for Drentse Onder Melk Organization (9) . Fiber X (10) is the name of the research project that led to the Arenka super fiber. Johan Picardt was a doctor and a pastor, but never explorer (11) . A detector tracked down a sixth century in 2014 coin (12) from Istanbul. The radio telescope in Dwingeloo has its nickname chicken wire telescope (13) and lived in the De Zulthe house in Roden Vasalis (14) .

It was the nineteenth time that the quiz was created in a collaboration between Dagblad van het Noorden, Drenthe Archives and the Drenthe Historical Association. Those who took the trouble to submit the solution had a chance to win cash prizes of 25 to 150 euros. The grand prize winner also receives Waardeel, the quarterly magazine of the Drenthe Historical Society, for a year.

The winners were drawn by notary Johan de Groot during a meeting in the Drenthe Archives, where Ferry Sieders and Hilde Boelema explained the answers in detail.

The main prize goes to Dirk Visser from Emmen. The lower prices are respectively for Marie Mulder from Norg, Janka Drogt from Emmen, Aaltje de Bruin from Turnhout and Pieter Bos from Zandpol.
