Humberto Tan wants KNVB to act harder against racism: ‘New rules are not necessary, they are already there’ Dutch football

The Mijnals Committee was established in July 2020 as part of the KNVB’s and central government’s plan of attack against racism and discrimination in football presented earlier that year. In addition to Tan, Ruud Gullit, mayor Ahmed Marcouch of Arnhem and former Orange international Daphne Koster are among others in it.

The committee reacts in an advice to monkey noises that could be heard during the FC Utrecht – Ajax (0-2) match when Ajax striker Brian Brobbey had scored. Last week FC Utrecht imposed a stadium ban on four people for the discriminatory chants.

According to the committee’s advice, there is a need to better enforce and monitor what the clubs are doing to prevent misconduct. “The KNVB does not have to come up with new rules, they already exist. We all have to comply with them”, says Tan. For example, the previously agreed step-by-step plan states that clubs that have made insufficient efforts to combat discrimination can be deducted points.
