HSV provisional leaders: Efficient Hamburg win at fear opponents Kiel

Status: 09/09/2022 8:24 p.m

The Hamburger SV is at least for one night leaders of the 2nd Bundesliga. On Friday evening we managed a 3:2 (1:0) in the northern duel at Holstein Kiel.

Tim Walter celebrated a successful anniversary in his 50th competitive game as HSV coach. This success at his ex-club is a very special one: In the ninth meeting in the second division, a win against the “Storks” was achieved for the first time. Previously, only five draws had been enough against Holstein in three defeats. HSV’s record away from home this season is impressive: in their fourth away game, victory number four.

Kiel starts off strong – but then HSV striker Glatzel is there

It didn’t look like that at first. Holstein coach Marcel Rapp’s team attacked Hamburg, who hadn’t conceded a goal in their three away games before, extremely early on – even well into their penalty area. This had an enormous impact. The guests struggled in the first few minutes to build up the game in an orderly manner. Kiel took advantage of this phase of uncertainty on the part of the opponent and created several good chances in quick succession. HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer-Fernandes prevented a deficit twice (4th/8th). There were also opportunities for Timo Becker (10th) and Fabian Reese (11th).

And HSV? He freed himself after 20 minutes and had a good and excellent opportunity through Miro Muheim (22′) and Bakery Jatta (32′), whose header was cleared by Kiel defender Patrick Erras on the goal line. And after Kiel’s Fiete Arp on the other side missed a very good opportunity to score against his ex-club (35th), the promotion candidate struck in the person of his top scorer. After a cross from Jean-Luc Dompé from the left wing, Robert Glatzel scored the lead with a header (39′) – it was his fifth goal of the season. With the 1-0 for HSV, it also went into the break.

Heyer and Reis score for HSV

The first 20 minutes of the second period rippled by, but then the stadium suddenly erupted in celebration – but too early. Arp’s goal was disallowed. Referee Daniel Siebert (Berlin) ruled that Heuer Fernandes had the ball in both hands and was therefore in control when Holstein captain Hauke Wahl touched him in the jump.

Instead of a possible 1:1, it was 2:0 for the guests shortly afterwards: Once again, the Kiel team revealed significant shortcomings when defending balls hit high into the penalty area. This time Moritz Heyer nodded off without much resistance (69′). Ludovit Reis apparently made everything clear in the 85th minute with a fine individual performance – 3:0 for HSV.

Kiel comes up to 2:3 in added time

However, things did get tight again: Heyer scored an own goal in the second minute of added time – it was the first goal conceded this season for Hamburg on foreign pitches. And just a few seconds later, Fin Bartels even scored to make it 2:3 (90+3). Holstein tried everything again, but HSV managed to get the narrow lead over time.
