HSV coach Walter does not give up: “Making the impossible possible”

HSV defeat in the relegation first leg

HSV coach Tim Walter relies on his own fans for the necessary miracle in the relegation second leg on Monday against his former club VfB Stuttgart. “The Volkspark”, answered the 47-year-old coach of the second division club after the 0: 3 in Stuttgart on Thursday evening when asked what still makes him optimistic.

Statistically, the Hanseatic League were at a disadvantage at VfB even before the relegation first leg kicked off. In the previous 24 duels, the higher club had prevailed 18 times, the second division team only managed to climb six times. However, none of these clubs had lost the first leg. The HSV threatens the sixth year in the second division.

“We have to stretch ourselves that on Monday we might make the impossible possible. We’re definitely not giving up,” said Walter, criticizing his defense. The quick goal by Konstantinos Mavropanos in the first minute and the 0: 3 by Serhou Guirassy (54th) came after corner kicks by Borna Sosa. “I just don’t have the consistency,” said Walter. “I have to block better in the second row, be better in there. We didn’t make it. VfB has a good shooter in Borna. Nevertheless, you can definitely defend it better.” Overall, it was “all in all a used day”.

HSV sports director Boldt hopes for “miracles” in the second leg

Despite the serious setback, the HSV players tried to spread optimism. “It’s a tough result, but anyone who knows us knows we’ll keep going. We believe in ourselves,” said goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes on “Sky”. “It’s all useless, anything is possible in football.”

The third in the second division is a clear outsider in the second duel on Monday (8.45 p.m. / Sat.1 and Sky). “There’s still a second leg. The chance has definitely not increased, but it’s still there,” said HSV captain Sebastian Schonlau. Sports director Jonas Boldt said the game was “difficult to put into words”. It contradicts his nature, “if I give something away. But such an achievement, such a result doesn’t make it any easier. (…) It must be a miracle then”.

Disillusionment in the Transfermarkt community among HSV supporters

In the Transfermarkt community, there is great disillusionment on the part of the HSV supporters. “That was a class difference, you don’t have to and can’t sugarcoat anything. (…) The assets are too low, individual positions are too weak, the game plan has been reduced to rubble – on Monday we should only waste time thinking about the way the coach and team will give an answer, but the goal is missed, “wrote User “Jottkah1887”. “mourinho87” meanwhile said: “That was qualitatively too clear today. We didn’t stand a chance, you have to be that fair. One or the other was also shown the limits. Because of that, I’m not particularly disappointed. I was disappointed that 66 points weren’t enough for promotion. But that’s the way it is.”

And “Windfaenger” wrote resignedly: “That was nothing. That won’t work anymore. The sadness isn’t really there anymore. There is emptiness there. Is there our HSV in the Bundesliga again? Without serious investments in the squad, there will be no chance of playing at the top in the future.” With a total value of 37.65 million euros, HSV has the most valuable squad in the second division, but that would put them last in the Bundesliga. For comparison: Stuttgart’s team is worth 115.95 million euros.

That was nothing. That won’t work anymore.
The sadness isn’t really there anymore.
There is emptiness there.
Is there our HSV in the Bundesliga again? Without serious investments in the squad, there will be no chance of playing at the top in the future.
The 120 million from KMK will now have to be discussed intensively. …
