Sieve decides again

Hamburger SV suffered another setback in the fight for promotion places in the 2nd Bundesliga. The North Germans lost on Wednesday at Bundesliga relegated SpVgg Greuther Fürth 0: 1 (0: 1) and missed the temporary leap to first place in the table. After a turbulent game at SV Sandhausen in the second half, 1. FC Heidenheim is still involved in the promotion race. Coach Frank Schmidt’s team was somewhat lucky to win 4:3 (2:0) against the Kurpfalzer, who were threatened with relegation, on Wednesday. The third-placed team is only two points behind the leaders Darmstadt 98, who play in Magdeburg on Thursday. In front of 3471 spectators, Tim Siersleben (31st minute) and striker Tim Kleindienst (40th), who played again in the storm center after a yellow card suspension, as well as Christian Kühlwetter (48th) and substitute Kevin Sessa (73rd) scored for the guests. FC Nürnberg on Wednesday evening, but have been waiting for a win in the Ostseestadion for four games now. Nils Fröling (90+1 minute) scored the goal for the home side in front of 23,500 spectators in the Ostseestadion after Fabian Nürnberger (5th) had given the Franks the lead.

SSV Jahn Regensburg and Eintracht Braunschweig are still treading water in the 2nd Bundesliga. In a game with few highlights, Jahn and the newly promoted team from Lower Saxony drew 1-1 (1-1) on Wednesday. Charalampos Makridis (11th minute) initially gave the hosts the lead, who fell back one place to tenth in the table after the draw.
