How to restore your WhatsApp contacts

Are you missing contacts on WhatsApp? Don’t panic, because in many cases the contacts can be easily restored. TECHBOOK shows you how this works.

It can happen for a variety of reasons: A friend or acquaintance can suddenly no longer be found on WhatsApp. In most cases it is due to the new phone, a missing update or because users accidentally deleted the contact. But first the good news: Often there is no need to worry, the contacts can be restored relatively easily.

Show WhatsApp contacts again

On Android

If a contact has disappeared from your WhatsApp list, you should first check whether WhatsApp has synchronized all contacts on your smartphone. With an Android device, users may have hidden the phone’s contacts. In this case, they will not be displayed on WhatsApp. In the Phone app, go to the three vertical dots and select contacts (with some Android manufacturers also contact manager or similar). Under show contacts you now have the option All Contacts choose. Go back to WhatsApp and click on the message icon at the bottom right. Select the three vertical dots and then the option To update out. You should now see all your contacts in Messenger again.

WhatsApp may also have had access to your contacts revoked, or you may have accidentally denied access. In the Android settings, navigate to privacy>Permission Manager>contacts and choose Whatsapp out. Here, make sure that access to Allow is set.

On iOS

With the iPhone, too, you must first allow the app to access your contacts. In the settings of the iPhone you can under the menu item privacy the sub-item contacts Find. This must be turned on in order for you to give WhatsApp permission to use your contacts.

iPhone users can grant WhatsApp permission to access contacts under the “Privacy” menu item.

Find missing WhatsApp contacts in backup

If you still can’t find the contact, you may be able to find it in your contact list backup if you made a backup. You can then add the lost contact again.

If you have WhatsApp synced with your Google account, the account can also help you. In Gmail, select “Contacts” and then “Restore Contacts”. Users can determine for themselves the period to which they want to reset the contact list. This will also get you back the deleted contact.

If none of that helps, there is only one option left: tools to restore contact. Software searches the cell phone for deleted data in order to restore them to the device. Both the App Store and the Play Store have various apps that can recover data. For Android devices, that’s about Dumbest trash and on iOS for example Apowersoft Manager (chargeable).
