While there are areas for improvement in features and energy consumption, the astounding picture quality skyrockets its overall score, earning it the first position on our list of best televisions. This accolade is well-deserved.
Stunning HDR Performance
Upon initial observation, the user interface of the LG may not appear as intuitive. However, the television’s capabilities become undeniable when tested with HDR content in 4K resolution. Deep blacks are rendered truly black, while individual light sources like stars and streetlights are depicted with precision. The rich details in both dark and bright scenes are captivating, with no signs of color bleeding or harsh transitions.
Outstanding Full HD Quality
Even in Full HD SDR mode, the picture quality remains exceptional. Other televisions may struggle to display finer details in dimly lit scenes, but the LG OLED 55G6 excels. While there’s always room for improvement in detail representation in darker scenes, it’s a minor complaint for such a high-performing device. Color gradations in SDR content are beautiful, and flickering or spots are virtually non-existent. The display also boasts excellent anti-reflection properties, ensuring that picture quality remains unaffected in bright rooms.
Brightness and Color Accuracy
Brightness measurement at the CHIP Test Center peaked at an impressive 3,439 cd/m², ranking it among the highest in our list of televisions. However, this brightness is only utilized in dynamic light mode and is rarely reached. In cinema mode, the brightness levels are still commendable at up to 1,706 cd/m², although slightly lower than its predecessor, the LG OLED G5.
Color Coverage and Accuracy
The color reproduction of the LG OLED 55G6 is also remarkable. According to CHIP lab tests, the commonly used DCI-P3 color space is almost fully covered at 99.7%. The broader BT.2020 color space coverage is around 80%, which isn’t a significant drawback as it is rarely utilized in practice. Sony models currently offer the best coverage in the BT.2020 space.
Performance and Input Options
