Too little sleep is unhealthy, most people know that. Studies can also harm an overdose of slumber. After how many hours you are optimally rested – and why?
It depends on the right balance
Not only too little sleep can be harmful to humans, but also too much sleep. “It depends on the right balance between sleeping and guards,” explains the sleep researcher Jürgen Zulley in a contribution to the mirror. In the case of amplifiers, the risk of illness and the death rate is significantly increased, it is said. This is also confirmed by studies from the United States and Great Britain – however, it has not yet been clearly clarified why too much sleep is harmful, says Zulley. So people are not as quiet as it looks from the outside. Instead, the body is in full swing: memories are processed, wound healing accelerates the organs. The body consumes almost as much energy as in wax phases, explains the sleep researcher. The individual need for sleep also depends largely on the inheritances. There are people who get on a five -hour sleep, while others need ten hours to feel well recovered, according to a contribution by the Techniker Krankenkasse.
How much sleep does the body need?
The body needs a different amount of sleep for every phase of life, according to research by the “Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center”. In general, toddlers need about 12 to 15 hours a day, children 10 to 13 hours a day and adolescents an average of 8.5 to 9.5 hours. Most adults need 7 to 9 hours a night, some people only need 6 hours or up to 10 hours of sleep a day.
Catch up
According to a study by the American sleep researcher David F. Dinges, missing sleep can be made up for by the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and his colleagues, as the TK reports. Anyone who fits properly after a few short nights will wane. But you are only really fit again when you have slept sufficiently for several days.
