House fire under control after fire broke out in the pan

A fire broke out in a house on Pastoor Thijssenlaan in Sterksel on Saturday afternoon. The fire spread upwards through the exhaust, causing a fire on the first floor. The fire brigade arrived on site with several vehicles.

Two fire engines, a water truck, an aerial platform and a duty officer were present at the fire. The water truck was called because the detached house is located just outside the village center in the countryside.

The fire raged on the first floor. According to a 112 correspondent on site, the fire is said to have started while cooking. The pan caught fire and the fire flew upwards through the exhaust.

Residents were able to leave the house safely, the fire brigade said. But the lady of the house was very shocked and was examined by ambulance personnel.

Extinguishing it proved difficult, because the fire raged somewhere between the roof boarding and a part that was boarded up. “It is very difficult to see where exactly the fire needs to be extinguished. A lot of smoke is released, there are few flames, but we are finding out where exactly it is,” said a spokesperson for the Brabant Zuidoost fire brigade.

Ultimately, the fire brigade had to do demolition work around the drain pipe to ensure that nothing was smoldering anymore. Just before nine o’clock the fire brigade announced that the fire was under control.

The roof was recently renovated and provided with additional insulation material.
