House fire in Izenberge: family receives shelter with relatives

“The fire broke out around 6 p.m. in a house in Groenestraat,” says Kristof Louagie of the Westhoek Fire Brigade. The corps of Lo-Reninge and Veurne arrived on the scene.

“We were able to prevent the flames from spreading out of the building. The damage is considerable: the ground floor has completely burned out.”

Try to extinguish yourself

A man was in the house when the fire started. He tried to put the fire out himself but in vain. “Fortunately, he was able to leave the house in time.”

“A lot of panes broke in the windows due to the heat. The top floor suffered smoke damage and was ventilated by the fire brigade,” says Kristof Louagie.

The house on the village square is uninhabitable. The couple with a child receives care from relatives.
