Horse stands between heaps of scrap iron in Emmen. Inspection service confiscates animal

The Animal Welfare Inspection Service seized a horse in Emmen on Monday. The animal stood between tractors, carts and heaps of scrap iron.

The owner had already received several warnings, but he refused to move the horse. “It is prohibited to house animals in this way. The man is responsible for all costs for transport and accommodation,” says a spokesperson for the service.

Protrusions and sharp edges

According to the Animal Keepers Decree, it is not permitted to house animals in an environment where they can be injured by protrusions and sharp edges.

“Even if the animal is in perfect health and condition, the owner should not ignore a warning from an inspector or police officer about this and a refusal to provide better living conditions could ultimately lead to the owner losing the animal.”

The police and the Rijksdienst RVO assisted during the seizure.
