It took a while, but finally there will be a study into the difference in supermarket prices in the Netherlands and in the surrounding countries.
Waakhond ACM starts research on supermarket prices: signals that products in the Netherlands are more expensive than in neighboring countries
The prices in the Netherlands are demonstrably higher than in Germany, for example. I have sometimes bought a product in Germany and it stated that it should not be sold in other countries. Why not?
Everyone now knows that prices abroad are lower, the question will be whether the ACM will actually do the right thing with the outcome of the investigation so that prices will be lowered. Or are they going to react just as they have done at the energy market, so that in the end everything stayed with the old. My question to the ACM would be, when will you investigate our government and the EU on price -increasing actions, such as energy tax, energy rates, tax for climate goals and BPM for cars.
I suspect that the ACM is not waiting for this request because our government needs these tax revenues. And then politicians do not understand that they will be weaned. That says a lot about the system in which we are.
