A total of eight cameras will be installed in Bruggestraat, Ieperstraat, Roeselare and Hogestraat. They will register all trucks in both directions when entering and leaving the center.
Big problem
Kristof Pillaert, mayor of Hooglede: “We listened to the people and that continuous heavy traffic really appears to be a major problem. We want to avoid that continuous traffic. The cameras will see how much time there is between entering and leaving the center. If that time is too short, the driver did not have to be here to unload and will be fined.”
The cameras will not cost the municipality of Hooglede anything, the RIHO police zone will pay for the system. “And the fines that are collected are for the state treasury and not for the municipality. We really do it for road safety,” the mayor adds.
If all goes well, the cameras will appear on the streets from April next year.
