In an interview issued in TN, the head of the National Institute of Film and Audiovisual Arts, Carlos Pirovanohe starred in a strong impact moment when defending the film Homo Argentum – Directed by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat and starring Guillermo Francella -, despite recognizing that I had not seen her.
In the cycle conducted by Diego Sehikman, the critic Pablo Manzotti He insisted: “Did you see the movie?”, To which Pirovano responded immediately: “No, no. I said I saw tiktoks.” With a firm gesture, he added: “When you see a lot of Tiktok, you see almost the entire movie.” Faced with that, the journalist replied with a sneer: “And how with so much vehemence is defending it?”
The episode did not go unnoticed, taking into account that the enthusiastic support came from who occupies a key role in the national film industry, in addition to being the head of the organism that regulates and encourages film production in the country. At least the statements generated serious questions about the rigor that these statements should accompany, especially if the President of the INCAA formulates and without having seen the work in question.
“I still didn’t see the movie. They invited me to the inauguration, but I teach at that time. Decline the invitation, I can’t because I teach at that time,” the official finished off. However, this did not stop his public defense of the film and alluded that Homo Argentum portrays the typical “Argentine who can speak things, which is not canceled or morally judged for saying something.” The Pirovano position confronts critics and main specialized portals that have remarked that artistic quality is irregular in their narrative.
Homo Argentum had a shocking start at the box office, with more than 400 thousand spectators in his first weekend. These numbers are located at the level of large international premieres that are hardly replicated with another national film in the remainder of the year. More if the significant decrease in the development of national productions for the large screen is taken into consideration.
So far, 102 Argentine films have been released in 2025, less than half, if we compare that there were 241 national films that debuted in the rooms last year and subtract only four months to close the year. A statistic that many culture professionals have expressed concern and have cataloged cynical government management in INCAA.
