Holland’s Got Talent causes annoyance with ultra-fast jury deliberations

The RTL 4 show Holland’s Got Talent caused astonishment with the ultra-fast jury deliberation in which the semi-finalists were selected yesterday. “Huh? What was I just looking at?”

The jury members of Holland’s Got Talent, including Chantal Janzen and Marc-Marie Huijbregts, have allowed countless candidates to advance to the next round in the past six weeks. But what does it turn out to be? Some of those candidates don’t advance to the next round at all. They held an ultra-short jury deliberation yesterday in which that was determined.

Ultra-fast jury deliberation

At the end of the sixth and final audition round of Holland’s Got Talent, a jury deliberation could be seen for about five seconds yesterday. “These were all auditions of Holland’s Got Talent 2022. It is now up to the jury to determine who will go through to the semi-finals,” said the voice-over.

Chantal then comments: “I think these are the twenty for the semi-finals.” And a colleague: “Yes, it was difficult, but here are twenty.”

‘How is this possible?’

Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6, where Holland’s Got Talent used to be shown, is stunned. “Huh? What was I just looking at?”

She continues: “Having watched six episodes of auditions Holland’s Got Talent and I am curious to see everyone who has passed again in the follow-up round, I suddenly hear the jury literally ‘confer’ only one sentence about which twenty will go on to the semi-finals. I understand how TV works, but this came across as very fake and weird.”

‘Very unkind’

You can’t actually do this, Tina thinks. “Isn’t it also very unkind to those candidates who thought they were through, but aren’t among those twenty? So all those candidates were super happy when they got on stage that they could go through, but the painful truth is that they just never had to come back?”

It is, she says, ‘very remarkable’. “And all that in just one sentence, ‘jury deliberation’.”
