The hockey players of Den Bosch were unable to fulfill their favorite role in the final of the Euro Hockey League. The Bossche team had to bow their heads in Amstelveen against the hockey players of Amsterdam. That happened after shoot-outs, which were necessary as the score was 2-2 after the regular minutes.

Den Bosch won the EHL last year and was slightly favorite. The team of trainer Marieke Dijkstra also quickly took the lead in the match with a goal from top scorer Frédérique Matla. Amsterdam came back strongly and equalized via Filiz Tuzgöl, but just before half-time Matla rammed the ball into the goal again and put Den Bosch at 2-1.

Video Referee
The Bosschenaren seemed to have the match under control in the second half, until Fay van der Elst pulled out and again equalized Amsterdam. No goal was scored in the final phase and the video referee had to make remarkably often decisions about whether or not penalty corners were justified.

shoot outs
A lot happened in the shoot-outs too. Almost every ball was contested in the VAR. Den Bosch scored via Pien Sanders and Matla, but then misses by Margot van Geffen, Lidewij Welten and Noor Omrani followed and keeper Anne Veenendaal became the heroine of Amsterdam.

On the other hand, Maria Verschoor, Freeke Moes and Noor de Baat were accurate. Moes was allowed in the rematch because goalkeeper Josine Koning made a foul.
