Historic silver for Noortje and Bregje de Brouwer at the World Championships in synchronized swimming

The twin sisters Noortje and Bregje de Brouwer from Goirle have won a historic medal at the World Synchronized Swimming Championships in Doha, Qatar. The duo finished second in the free freestyle final. The 24-year-old sisters have thus won a Dutch World Championship medal in synchronized swimming for the first time in history.

The gold went to the Chinese duo Liuyi and Qianyi Wang. They finished just above the Dutch duet. The British couple Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe took the bronze.

With this top ranking and fourth place in the final of the technical performance, Noortje and Bregje de Brouwer are almost certainly qualified for the Paris Olympic Games.

Together with her twin sister, Bregje from Goirle has been a duet in synchronized swimming since she was five. In 2021 they took a creditable ninth place at the Olympic Games and came second at the European Games in 2023. “Our ultimate goal is a ticket for the 2024 Olympic Games, which is really the biggest stage,” Bregje told Omroep Brabant last year.
