When Alexander Zverev is on the tennis court, it sparkles around his neck. The gold chains of the tennis star are not just decoration.

He chews on them and puts it back under the shirt: When Alexander Zverev swings the tennis racket, the gold chains on his neck also play a prominent role.

Zverev has always been wearing the same three chains: two without trailers and one with two different sizes with two different sizes in the shape of a ram, his zodiac sign. But why does Zverev also wear the chains on the square where they certainly affect it? In front of almost every point he has to stow her again under his shirt.

Ex-tennis professional Steve Johnson also wondered that. He asked Zverev in his podcast “Nothing Major”, which he operates together with other American ex-professionals John Isner and Sam Querrey: “What is the story when there is one, behind the gold chains? At every point you put it back under your shirt. You just think about it so that you no longer have to deal with it?”

Zverev’s answer reveals a very personal connection to the chains: “I have had them since I was a small child. I have three chains and the three chains are of three different people who are very important to me,” said the 28-year-old. “A chain is the same as my brother has,” he said. Zverev’s brother himself was active as a tennis professional and accompanies Alexander Zverev together with father Alexander Zverev Senior as part of his coaching team. “The second chain is the same as my mother has,” Zverev explains.

“The third has two ram characters. My grandma gave me the smaller one when I was small and the big one gave me when I was older and grown up,” the German continued. “This is the story behind the three kittens. Some people have tattoos, with a meaning, I have the chains. I will not take them away as long as I live,” he made it clear.

Gold chains in tennis are very trendy. Some icons of sport, such as Andre Agassi and Serena Williams, wore jewelry frequently on the square. Numerous current professionals also like to wear jewelry during their matches. But for Zverev, his chains are more than just decoration, they are almost family matter.
