Hip hop recap: with Ice Spice ft. Rema, Offset, Luciano and Farid Bang

The new releases offer accomplished lyrics, calmer beats, PR stunts & some surprise moments.

This time, in addition to well-known faces who diligently supply the scene with new works every Friday, the hip-hop world has also brought newcomers and surprise acts onto the scene. Both Ice Spice and Offset released songs again after a long time, which come with a new music video. The latter released a fresh LP with SET IT OFF on Friday, October 13th after a four-year break. We listened to the new works for you and classified them.

Ice Spice ft Rema – “Pretty Girl”

Ice Spice and Rema combine rap and Afrobeat. Most probably Rema already be a household name because he scored a hit with “Calm Down” in 2023, for which he brought Selena Gomez on board as a feature partner. He now brings exactly this vibe to “Pretty Girl”. A track with gentle synths and fast, poppy beats. Ice Spice serves up her typically accented and accomplished rap parts, which are also reminiscent of her breakthrough song “Boy’s a Liar”. For “Pretty Girl,” the 23-year-old collaborates with her regular producer Riot USA.

Offset ft. Travis Scott – “Say My Grace”

In July 2023, Offset gained widespread attention with his single “Jealousy.” No wonder, because the rapper released the track together with his wife and rapper Cardi B. What exactly does that have to do with it? In 2018 it was revealed that Offset was having an affair, which is why Cardi B separated from him for a while. Before the release of “Jealousy,” rumors began to circulate that Cardi B wanted revenge and had cheated, causing another marital crisis. The speculation was started by Offset himself, who teased this on his Instagram. The result was that the topic was probably intended primarily as PR for her single and had little to do with reality.

His single “Say My Grace” from the accompanying album SET IT OFF receives relatively little application. Apparently it didn’t do much for the success of the track, as the clicks on YouTube are in the millions. What On the one hand, it could be because Offset’s accomplished rap style turns the track into a banger or, on the other hand, because Travis Scott can be heard on the song.

Luciano – “Cold Princess”

In contrast to his previous single releases (such as “Mami”), Luciano shows his calmer and more sentimental side on “Cold Princess”. Here the rapper tells the story of a woman who hides her pain and becomes very withdrawn. On a fast beat from DLS, Luciano presents a smooth and slower rap style. A line from the track: “Yeah, she’s still hoping she’ll be happy, when will the pain finally stop?”

Farid Bang – “Friday the 13th.”

Published to coincide with the release date Farid Bang his new track “Friday the 13th” and makes an announcement to the scene. For this he disses “6pm” records and doesn’t miss the chance to also take shots at producers OZ and Shindy. Even though no feature partner is mentioned in the title, Farid Bang surprises towards the end of his six-minute song with Kollegah, who literally steps up to the microphone and also delivers a few lines against Shindy. The track says, among other things: “And your last song sounded like you were celebrating “Give it to him” (Yеah)/Alone against everyone, that’s how it’ll be until the end.”
