This weekend is the opening of the swimming season. The final finishing touches are still being put on the i’s today.
Volunteers keep pool alive
“With a great group of volunteers, we have ensured that we are completely ready to open again,” says operator Marloes Veldheer.
Volunteer Henk Stam has also been helping to keep the swimming pool open for the past three years. “I was already there during the opening in 1970,” says Henk while he is sanding a bench. “I was very sad that this pool would disappear, so I became a volunteer.”
At that time, 18,000 people sometimes came to the bath on summer days. “But we don’t need that many people,” says Marloes, laughing. On peak days in the summer, the Baafje now attracts 2,000 visitors.
In addition to all kinds of odd jobs, Henk is also a supervisor. “Thanks to people like Henk, this swimming pool has a bright future,” says Marloes. The doors of Het Baafje open Saturday morning at 10:00 am.
