Natalia Avelon shared black-and-white images of her wedding to Otto Steiner on Instagram. The actress recounts tales of relentless rain, nearly lost rings, and a third-degree burn.
In several photos, the 46-year-old is seen in an off-the-shoulder wedding gown, accessorized with a bow hat. Her husband opted for an all-white suit. A video captures the bride joyfully jumping up and down with guests, while another snapshot shows her sitting on the ground, surrounded by flower petals.
However, it wasn’t a glossy, picture-perfect wedding day, as Avelon writes: “It was an unforgettable day that we will carry in our hearts forever!”
The Rings Almost Floated Away
The weather certainly interfered that day. “It rained heavily! Our rings almost floated away on the street! The guests were soaking wet!” the actress reported. The planned summer barbecue had to be relocated indoors. Instead of giving up, the couple dashed to local drugstores at the last minute for colorful umbrellas and provided heart-shaped glasses for the guests. They danced in the rain, and in two photos, the couple is seen under umbrellas.
Injuries Before the Big Day
Both Avelon and Steiner faced challenges even before the ceremony. Avelon suffered a third-degree burn while steaming tablecloths the day before the wedding, a condition that she claims “still keeps me on my toes.” She spent six hours in the emergency room three days later. Initially, she felt euphoric and hyped on adrenaline, dancing in high heels without realizing the extent of her injuries. Steiner also had a mishap, twisting his back while carrying items and had to visit an orthopedic doctor. “We were both pretty banged up when we presented ourselves to the mayor of Oberhaching for the ceremony,” Steiner said. Yet, despite everything, it turned into “a very happy, exuberant day.”
A Reminder to Embrace Life’s Moments
From the chaos, Avelon draws a lesson that speaks to a life philosophy. “One should celebrate events as they come and make the best out of every moment life offers!” she states. Ultimately, we always have control over our own happiness. “We didn’t let anything take away our joy! It was genuine. From the heart. Perhaps the circumstances were a small metaphor for marriage… through thick and thin.”
Proposal in a Bathrobe
The couple got engaged only in late March, on Avelon’s birthday, while on a road trip through Italy. “We traveled from Lake Garda to Venice,” Steiner recalled. “On Natalia’s birthday, after we toasted her, I got down on one knee in a bathrobe on the balcony overlooking the Grand Canal.” Surprisingly, there were no tears. “I always thought you’d cry tears of joy in such moments. We just laughed and were really happy!” the actress shared.
This is Avelon’s first marriage. Steiner was previously in a relationship with actress Mimi Fiedler from 2017 to 2023, marrying her in 2019. Fiedler announced their separation in 2023. (mia/spot)
