Jaïr Ferwerda is under fire for his strange interview with Rob Jetten. In this he portrays the friend of the D66 leader as the female in the relationship. “Just as dated as Harry Human!”

The idea that there must be a ‘female’ and a ‘male’ partner in every relationship is based on traditional gender stereotypes. Completely outdated, but Jaïr Ferwerda appears to be very attached to it. And Rob Jetten was confronted with this in an embarrassing way during an interview for Jaïr’s section in the talk show Humberto.

The female

Rob has a new friend, a real hockey hunk, and together they made an appearance on Budget Day. Remarkable, says Jaïr. “Was this just an official campaign moment that we just… first lady come and introduce it?”, he asks the leader of D66.

Um, first lady? This is so Johan Derksen. “It remains such a difficult concept for heterosexuals, when two men are in a relationship. One of the two must always be ‘the female’. Terrible,” says television critic Victor Hopman X.

Jan Dijkgraaf, the biographer of the Meilandjes: “And then Ferwerda also chooses the wrong one.”

‘What a level!’

Roel Geeraedts, former RTL News journalist and now working at the Court of Audit, is disappointed in Jaïr. “God, what a level.”

Ton Elias, former VVD MP, agrees. “Passing by collectively would help against this clown. Politicians are not part of the circus. So just simply don’t participate.”

Mr Roy: “Hopefully there will come a day when it is not at all newsworthy who politicians have a relationship with. That’s just a private matter. And referring to a man as ‘lady’ makes no sense.”

‘Just like Harry Human!’

Media journalist Jef Willemsen draws a comparison between Jaïr and the conservative television star Harry Mens. “Last week the country was shocked by Harry Mens who asked Paul de Leeuw if you can make adopted children gay, but Ferwerda is at least as dated and heteronormatively silly in his own way.”

He concludes: “No longer relevant these days… And certainly not as a ‘teasing’.”
