Hertha BSC: Supervisory Board Chairman Brüggemann resigns: “Don’t bend me”

Criticism of President Bernstein

Immediately before the general meeting of Hertha BSC on Sunday, supervisory board chairman Klaus Brüggemann announced his resignation from the Berliners. The 64-year-old said this in a letter to the presidium and meeting chair Dr. Dirk Lentfer’s statement announces how the “Kicker“ reported and has now been officially confirmed.

“If vanity and claims to power are more important than the club, then something is going wrong with our old lady. “I won’t bend, I’d rather go,” Brüggemann is quoted as saying by the magazine. With his decision, the head of the control committee anticipates another vote by the members on his remaining in office. There had already been a motion to vote him out in November 2022.

Brüggemann is said to have been one of the few to speak out internally against reintegrating goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck. After the violent incident during the training camp in Austria was dealt with in court, the 28-year-old’s suspension was lifted. Another member, Renate Döhmer, is leaving the supervisory board, leaving only Dr. Torsten-Jörn Klein, Andreas Schmidt and Scott Körber remain on the committee. Brüggemann was first represented on the Hertha supervisory board between 2000 and 2004, his second term started in June 2018 – he took over as chairman in 2022.

Update 12:04 p.m.: Brüggemann verbally clearly directed himself against the club’s president Kay Bernstein, who was unable to be at the general meeting after an accident at the office and is still in the hospital. The ex-supervisory board chairman said, among other things, that Bernstein was overwhelmed by the presidency. His resignation hurt him very much.
