Heptathlon: Schäfer sixth in Thiam-Triumph

At the next triumph of Nafissatou Thiam (Belgium), Carolin Schäfer finished sixth in the heptathlon at the home European Championships in Munich.

The training partner of decathlon European champion Niklas Kaul collected 6223 points and was the best German. Sophie Weißenberg (Leverkusen) did not compete in the final 800 m “due to symptoms of a cold and exhaustion”.

With 6628 points, gold once again went to defending champion, world champion and Olympic champion Thiam, who gave Adrianna Sulek (6532/Poland) no chance. The Swiss Annik Kälin (6515) secured bronze.

Vice World Champion Anouk Vetter (Netherlands) did not compete in the javelin while she was on course for a medal. Her compatriot Emma Oosterwegel, Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo, was eliminated after falling over the hurdles.
