“Help!” 5+1 pretty bizarre cover versions

Covers and samples are part of the music industry. Some musicians become particularly creative and create their own unusual works.

Here is a small selection of titles to which this applies:

1st Wave: Erdball – “VW Beetle” (The Tornados – “Telstar”)

A sample is the starting point. The electronic group Welle:Erdball used the Tornados hit “Telstar” from 1962. The melody stayed the same, but the song got an 80s makeover and lyrics. In typical Welle:Erdball manner, the text deals with a nostalgic retro theme – driving in a VW Beetle.

2. Cindy and Bert – “The Hound from Baskerville” (Black Sabbath – “Paranoid”)

It continues with a German-language cover. The pop duo Cindy and Bert sings the heavy metal title “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath. The translation differs in content from the original and takes up the Sherlock Holmes story “The Hound of Baskerville”.

3. The Pantoms – “Brand New Cadillac” (Vince Taylor)

The Clash probably recorded the most famous version of “Brand New Cadillac”. The original dates back to 1959 and was published by rock ‘n’ roller Vince Taylor. Danish group The Phantoms slow down the fast-paced title and turn it into a beat number.

4. Bee Gees – “Please Please Me” (The Beatles)

Before the Bee Gees discovered disco as their genre, they performed as a children’s band, playing beat and rock ‘n’ roll songs. This also applies to a television appearance in which they sang the Beatles classic “Please Please Me”.

5. Jose Feliciano – “Help!” (The Beatles)

The fame of the Beatles has led to countless cover versions of their titles. This fund also includes Jose Feliciano’s version of “Help!”. The blind singer and guitarist underscored the beat song with brass instruments, among other things.

Bonus: Peter Sellers – “Help!”

A truly exceptional cover of Help! comes from Peter Sellers. The actor speaks the lyrics. He is accompanied by an organ and a choir, which makes the song sound almost like a Bach cantata. Seller has covered other Beatles titles in this whimsical manner, including A Hard Day’s Night and She Loves You.
