Heidenheim misses victory against Magdeburg – wild final phases in Nuremberg and at BTSV

Sandhausen remains last

1. FC Heidenheim was unable to catch up with leaders SV Darmstadt 98 in the 2nd Bundesliga. After the 0-0 draw against 1. FC Magdeburg on Sunday, coach Frank Schmidt’s team still has good prospects of being promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time. With three games to go, FCH has a four-point lead over third-placed Hamburger SV, and a non-promotional spot is eight points away. Darmstadt lost 3-0 to FC St. Pauli on Saturday evening and is three points ahead of Heidenheim. The guests are in eleventh place with 39 points.

The Heidenheim team struggled against Magdeburg in front of 15,000 spectators in the sold-out Voith Arena, especially in the first half. After the change of sides, the FCH then developed an overweight. Substitutes Kevin Sessa (52nd minute) and Dzenis Burnic (60th) both failed because of the aluminum and in the final phase Heidenheim did not reward themselves for their improved performance after the break.
