Heidenheim won the home game against Augsburg. Hardly anyone wanted and could talk about sport afterwards.
The home win of the 1st FC Heidenheim against FC Augsburg (2-1) has been overshadowed by a serious incident. Shortly before the end of the game, a fan fan from the east grandstand into the interior. The man apparently had to be reanimated, was appealing according to the club and was taken to the hospital with a helicopter.
The scenes caused great unrest – not only in the ranks, but also on the pitch. After the final whistle, several Heidenheim fans stormed onto the field and ran towards the Augsburg players. The situation escalated for a moment, but could be calmed down by quick intervention.
Heidenheim’s coach Frank Schmidt visibly commented on Sky: “I heard from the fans that a fan fan over the fence at 2-0, struck his head and was passed out for longer.” He emphasized: “It is football, it is important – but not the most important thing, I’ve been saying that all my life.” Before the game, they hoped to be able to win, but now it is only about a person’s health: “I would like to exchange it, but that doesn’t work.” According to Schmidt, the fan in the stadium was stabilized, the hospital was directly opposite.
Schmidt could not say exactly why it came to chaotic scenes after the final whistle. However, he expressed understanding of the reaction of the fans: “When they see that one of them is fighting for his life, then the emotions go up.” At the same time, he made it clear that the behavior after the game should not have happened. The Heidenheimer coach was challenged himself: “I had to put myself protectively in front of the Augsburg, because they have other emotions in their heads, probably didn’t know what it was about. I think we have bravely intervened – and nothing happened.”
Augsburg’s goalkeeper Finn Dahmen said at Sky that he did not realize the situation at first: “We had a kick, I didn’t know that someone had injured himself, then called loudly: ‘Give the ball’. I didn’t insult anyone and didn’t know that someone was injured.” Dahmen wished the affected fan all the best.
Despite the important home victory, Schmidt hardly wanted to talk about the sporty. “We showed a great performance, but there are other things in my head,” he said. The success brings new faith, but considering the events, the result was clearly in the background.
