Former handball series champion VfL Gummersbach has started a Bundesliga season for the first time in nine years.

The team of coach Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson won 29:28 (13:10) on Thursday in a gripping game against the MT Melsungen and is one of five teams with still flawless record. It was the second defeat in the second game for the previous year Melsungen.

European League winner SG Flensburg-Handewitt also missed a victory in the second game of the season and did not get beyond a draw at 29:29 (13:15) against TVB Stuttgart, as was the start of HSG Wetzlar. Ex-master TBV Lemgo Lippe celebrated the first win of the season, who won 34:29 (15:15) at SC DHfK Leipzig. The Leipziger are still one of four teams without a point.
