SC Magdeburg and THSV Eisenach played a gripping game. The SCM was able to win the game against the Thuringian only a few seconds before the end.
SC Magdeburg has also won the ninth game in a row in the handball Bundesliga and received the chance of defending the title. In the catch-up game against THSV Eisenach, the master trembled for a 33:32 (18:18) success.
Omar Ingi Magnusson was the best shooter at the SCM with ten goals. National player Marko Grgic was successful for Eisenach fifteen times. Magdeburg remains third with a minus point more than the top duo foxes Berlin and MT Melsungen. Eisenach is eleventh.
Marko Grgic scored almost half of the Eisenach goals.
The THSV ensured a special moment before the game started. In memory of the victims of the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market in December, the players kept a banner up. It said: “We don’t forget you. You will be remembered. Eisenach for Magdeburg.” There was applause from the spectators in the sold-out GETEC-Arena. Due to the attack, the game between the two teams, which was actually scheduled for the end of December, was postponed and now made up for.

SCM can only settle late, Eisenach comes back
The Thuringians equalized a Magdeburg two-goal lead twice at the beginning. Afterwards, no team was able to settle. “We don’t want to get to the pace, we need balance”SCM trainer Bennet warned in a break at 10:10. The game was also balanced at the break (18:18), also because Hornke put two major chances on the post shortly before the break.
After the change, Magdeburg went back to the front, but the Elbe residents could not stop at first because they failed too often in the attack. Almost 20 minutes before the end, Eisenach’s defense chief Philipp Meyer saw the red card after a foul on Magdeburg Gisli Kristjansson. Shortly afterwards, the champion led for the first time with four goals (25: 21/44.). In the final phase, the guests made the game exciting again with a 4-0 run at 30:30, but the hosts kept their nerves and the points.
