The Havendagen Coevorden will not take place this year. The event would be held in July. “The entire city center is upside down,” says Janwolter Mager of the Havenvereniging Coevorden.
“The municipality is working on the renovation of the market and is also tackling the Binnenhaven. There is a kind of bowl of water where children can play. There is not enough room at the moment to keep the port days.”
According to Mager, the construction of the water bowl is at the expense of a number of mooring places. The port association does not agree with that change. “It’s not just about the mooring places, but it is also a damage to the historic port. Everyone thinks it’s a shame, but the plans are going on and we have to accept that.”
At the end of this year, the association will look at how the city center is there and then makes a decision whether the port days can be held next year. “Then we look at what is still possible.”
