Hassan still runs a race in Portland in the run-up to the World Championships in Athletics | NOW

Sifan Hassan will run her first game of the season in Portland, USA on Friday. In the 5 kilometers, the Olympic champion is preparing for the World Athletics Championships, which start next week.

Hassan’s management confirms its participation on Friday after reporting from athletics website letsrun.com† For a long time it looked like Hassan would only run her first game of the season at the World Championships in Eugene in America.

Hassan initially wanted to open her season in June at the FBK Games, but she declined. She also skipped the Diamond League in Eugene to put extra energy into the training sessions. Hassan decided to prepare for the World Cup in the United States.

The 29-year-old athlete took a long break after last year’s Olympics in Tokyo, where she won gold in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters and bronze in the 1,500 meters. As a result, she started training later and did not compete.

Her coach Tim Rowberry told letsrun.com that Hassan does not plan to run all 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the World Cup. After the weekend it will be decided at which distances Hassan will take action.

Hassan won the world title in the 1,500 and 10,000 meters at the last World Cup, in 2019. The tournament in Eugene will be held from July 15 to 24.
