It is open whether Hans-Joachim Watzke will be at the head of the club in the future. The long -time managing director of Borussia Dortmund wants to worry during the summer break whether he will run for the office of President. He explained this in an interview with the “kicker”.
Accordingly, both the Economic Council and the Club’s Council of Elders unanimously asked him to stand for election. “I take that seriously. I will think about whether I still want that during the summer break,” said Watzke. He had not yet made a decision.
The 65-year-old was surprised that incumbent Reinhold Lunow wanted to compete again. That was not agreed, said Watzke: “But he can do that, it is his right.” However, he did not want to comment on Lunow negatively. They had been friends for many years. “I have to sort it a little for myself now.”
Watzke has been the focus of the public for two decades – especially if things are not going well in terms of sport. This also causes considerable pressure, he also told the “kicker”: “Maybe it would be nice not to have that anymore.” Even if he has other interesting tasks, the work at BVB remains “the job that I love the most”.
