Hannover 96 extended with goalkeeper Leo Weinkauf

Zieler’s deputy

Hannover 96 have extended Leo Weinkauf’s contract, which originally expired at the end of the season. As the second division club announced on Sunday, the goalkeeper signed for another three years until 2026. The 26-year-old has been with Lower Saxony since 2018, but has only been used twice for the professionals. In addition, there are 29 games for the second team. From the summer of 2019 to 2022, Weinkauf was loaned out to MSV Duisburg, where he was number one between the posts 115 times.

Sports director Marcus Mann on the deputy of regular goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, whose working paper ends in 2023: “We are very pleased that Leo has extended his contract for the long term and that we remain in an excellent position overall as a goalkeeper. You can rely on him when he is needed. We are very happy with his development and we think he can make further steps in the future. In addition, he is a guy who is very good for the dressing room.” Weinkauf added: “I feel very comfortable in the club, in the team and with us in the goalkeeping team. I think that we have taken a good path together. So I’m happy to continue to be a part of it and to be under contract with Hannover 96 in the years to come.”
