Hanke Bruins Slot (CDA) is the new Minister of Foreign Affairs with effect from Tuesday 5 September 2023. The King’s Cabinet announced this today.

The reason for the new division of tasks is the departure of Wopke Hoekstra as Minister of Foreign Affairs on 1 September. Liesje Schreinemacher, the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, took over the portfolio in the meantime.

Minister Bruins Slot

Bruins Slot worked, among other things, as a senior policy officer at the Ministry of the Interior and served from 2007 to 2010 as an Artillery Officer at the Royal Netherlands Army. In 2008 she was deployed to Afghanistan as a platoon commander Armored Howitzer. From 2010 to 2019 she was a member of parliament for the CDA; among other things as spokesperson in the field of defence, domestic administration, curative care, prevention, sports and medical-ethical issues. In 2019 she started working as a deputy of the province of Utrecht.

Bruins Slot has been Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations in the Rutte IV cabinet since January 2022.
