The dream of a first title is alive: Yannick Hanfmann has reached the final of an ATP tournament for the third time in his career.

The Karlsruher won the 250cc tournament in Santiago de Chile 6:3, 6:4 against top seed Francisco Cerundolo. In the final of the $700,045 event, he will face the winner of the game between the Italian Luciano Darderi and the Argentinian Sebastian Báez.

“It feels great. From the first point to the last point I played a really good match,” said Hanfmann: “I’m really happy.”

Hanfmann had already reached a final on his favorite clay surface in Gstaad in 2017 and in Kitzbühel in 2020, but lost twice. Now the 34-year-old, who was the only German representative in the main draw, has his next chance for the title.

On Saturday, Hanfmann benefited from his strong serve game – and mistakes from Cerundolo, who was always arguing with himself. Last year Hanfmann failed in the round of 16 in Chile against the Argentinian, and he was also ranked 81st in the world rankings at the 500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro two weeks ago. left behind. After 1:25 hours, Hanfmann used his second match point, clenched both fists and smiled broadly.
