Handballers Volendam book a nice victory over Visé

HV Volendam has done good business in the BeNe-League. In the home match against Belgian Visé, they won with a minimal difference: 30-29.

Volendam started the game strongly against the number two of the BeNe-League. Geert Hinskens’ formation defended meticulously and also took an early lead thanks to well-run attacks. However, Visé stepped up his game, fought back into the match and leveled the score at 8-8.

Among the Volendammers, Ephrahim Jerry showed himself frequently in the first act. Partly thanks to his 5 goals, both teams went to the changing rooms halfway with the score at 14-14.

Stuffy final phase

Earlier this season, Volendam lost by two points when visiting Visé in Belgium and in this match too, both teams were barely inferior to each other. After the break, the odds continued to change for the lead. Volendam goalkeeper Craig McClelland was important for his team in the second half with a number of good saves and Jerry also continued to shoot sharply. Jerry would eventually score 12 times and Volendam took a 28-23 lead with five minutes to go.

Volendam therefore seemed to be heading for a solid victory, but in the closing minutes the visitors still came awfully close. Visé even came within one goal of Volendam and had plenty of opportunities to score an equalizer. Volendam, however, held on and recorded its twelfth victory of the season.

In the BeNe-League, Volendam remains in fourth place, a place that entitles them to the play-offs. With three games to go, Volendam has 26 points. Close attacker Aalsmeer has collected one point less.
