From Braunschweig to the Bundesliga: Jan Mudrow’s move to the highest German handball class is perfect. The 17-year-old is considered a great talent.
The future of handball talent Jan Mudrow has been clarified. The 17-year-old is moving from third division team MTV Braunschweig to TBV Lemgo in the Bundesliga next summer. The youngster signed a contract with the Lippe handball first division team until June 30, 2027.
TBV managing director Jörg Zereike and trainer Florian Kehrmann are looking forward to the new addition. “We consider ourselves lucky that we were able to bring Jan, a much sought-after talent, to Lemgo,” they are quoted as saying in the club’s statement.
For Mudrow, the move closes a circle. His father Volker was also active as a player and coach in Lemgo. During his active professional career he made it into the German senior national team. As a coach, he won the German championship in 2003 and the EHF Cup in 2006 and 2010.
Son Jan admits that his father’s Lemgo story “played a role” in the decision-making process. “I just had a great feeling right from the start. Jörg and Flo showed me a lot of interest and tried very hard to get me to Lemgo – that convinced me,” he says.
At 17 years old, Mudrow is considered one of the most promising German handball talents. Even as a B-youth, he showed his potential in the 2023/24 season and was one of the league’s most accurate goalscorers with 118 goals. With the German U18 team he came fifth at the 2024 European Championships and scored the most goals (53) of his team. He recently won the Merzig Cup with the German U19 juniors.
He brings incredible fire to the sport.

Those responsible in Lemgo are convinced of the qualities of the backcourt player. “Jan is also extremely advanced as a person for his age. We look forward to being able to accompany and support him on his path over the next few years,” said Zereike and Kehrmann. “He brings an incredible fire for the sport, a very strong understanding of the game and a lot of throwing power with him to Lemgo.”
In the “strongest league in the world” they now want to help him shed his status as the “greatest German talent” and gain a lasting foothold at a high level. “He will get the time he needs with us,” promise Zereike and Kehrmann. Before that, Mudrow, whose departure from the Lion City has been certain for some time, will play for another six months with MTV Braunschweig for promotion to the 2nd league.
