Germany’s junior handball players have won the next gold medal and are world champions.

The DHB U17 team won the final in Casablanca against Egypt 44:43 after extra time. At the end of regular time the score was 37:37 (18:17).

For the German Handball Association it is the crowning conclusion of this junior year. The women’s U19 team had already won European Championship gold in July. The U19 men won the World Cup title in August.

“This is a historic result at the premiere of this tournament, which always remains in an outstanding position in the winners’ lists,” commented DHB President Andreas Michelmann on the success.

Gaugisch’s son saves German handball players

It was the first time that the International Handball Federation organized a world championship at the U17 level. The young DHB team marched into the final with four wins and won each of its games by at least 17 goals.

The German squad included Kalle Gaugisch, among others the son of the national coach of the German women’s national team, Markus Gaugisch. The 17-year-old equalized in the final three seconds before the end of regular time and saved Germany into extra time.
