Handball: First European League bankruptcy for Flensburg-Handewitt

Handball Bundesliga team SG Flensburg-Handewitt has had to acknowledge its first defeat in the European League.

After his dream start with three wins in a row, the former German champion lost 26:30 (26:30 (14:17)) to the Swedish outsider Ystads IF in group B of the preliminary round on Tuesday evening.

First division relegation candidate FA Göppingen, on the other hand, celebrated another success in Group A with a completely safe 34:24 (19:8) against the Slovakian guests from the pointless bottom Tatran Presov after five competitive defeats in a row.

Both Flensburg and Göppingen are still among the top groups. The four best teams from each of the four groups advance to the round of 16.

Later on Tuesday evening, Bundesliga leaders Füchse Berlin, who are still undefeated on the European stage, have the chance to consolidate their lead in Group C against Portugal’s representative Aguas Santas Milaneza, who is still pointless.
