The hanging game is over: Shortly before the start of the women’s handball Bundesliga, the future of the financially difficult to strike Double winner HB Ludwigsburg has been clarified.
HB Ludwigsburg will no longer be involved in the Bundesliga season, which starts next weekend. “Despite all the efforts, the hope of continuing the game of the handball players of the HB Ludwigsburg failed on a smaller scale,” said a statement published on Tuesday. The current German master is no longer part of the German elite league.
Insolvency administrator Leichtle: “Serious financing possible”
“The discussions of the past few weeks were conducted with great commitment and closer to everyone involved – but even for a stripped -off solution, the financing gap, which had already arisen in the past season, could not be closed,” the statement said.
“Even in a significantly reduced framework, we have not managed to put together a sustainable financing,” said Dr. Holger Leichtle, preliminary insolvency administrator. “Against this background, a responsible decision was now required.” A secure continuation of the game operation cannot be realized in the coming season.
Previously, a round of talks had taken place, in which, in addition to the Ludwigsburg club tour, the commissioned insolvency administration and the previous main sponsor of the German master had participated. “This decision is anything but slightly fallen,” the board of the association quoted. “But after intensive discussions with the city, with sponsors and potential supporters, we have to acknowledge that the conditions are simply no longer met.”
Excluded from the Supercup
The long-standing top address of German women’s handball had submitted an bankruptcy application several weeks ago due to financial problems. The players had been released from their contracts. The club was excluded from the Supercup last weekend in Munich and the participation in the Champions League.
