After the massive defeat in the top game, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel is exposed to heavy criticism. This one by Lothar Matthäus and Dietmar Hamann is particularly sharp.
Lothar Matthäus believes a debate about Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel is imperative after the failed Bundesliga summit. “Whether Tuchel is wobbling now? It wouldn’t be a miracle. There will definitely be discussions internally. In fact, it has to be. Anything else wouldn’t be Bayern-like,” wrote the German record national player in his Sky column.
Tuchel “went all in and gambled away” in the 3-0 loss at Bayer Leverkusen, said Matthäus: “You had the impression that he wanted to show everyone and unfortunately it didn’t work. A bit like Carlo Ancelotti back in Paris .” The Italian provoked his exit in September 2017 with a lineup without numerous leading players at Paris Saint-Germain (0:3).
Matthäus on Bayern’s future: “It won’t get any quieter”
“A coach can irritate the leaders of the dressing room, ignore them, ignore them or dismantle them, but then he has to win, and win convincingly,” wrote Matthäus and emphasized: “Tuchel failed to do both. Quite the opposite. Things will be quieter in the “Not at Bayern in the coming days.”

“Individual sport in a group”: Hamann attacks Bayern
Former national player Dietmar Hamann also attacked the German record champions sharply. “At Bayern you have the feeling that only the one who has the ball runs,” grumbled the former Munich professional on Sunday evening at the Sky90 football talk. “Bayern are currently doing individual sports in the group. And they’ve been playing like that for weeks and months.”
While Hamann had little to complain about with Tuchel’s tactics, he criticized the coach’s personnel policy even more harshly. “If a Kimmich is fit, then he has to play – with all the love for Pavlović. Tuchel had 19-year-old Aleksandar Pavlović start alongside Leon Goretzka and only substituted national player Joshua Kimmich after an hour of play.
Hamann: Tuchel “dismantles” leading players
Hamann complained that Tuchel had “dismantled” leading players such as central defender Matthijs de Ligt, Kimmich and Goretzka, who were not used against Leverkusen, in the last few weeks and months. “You don’t have to be surprised if you don’t have a lead in a game like this.”
Like Matthäus, the former national player assessed the chances of winning the twelfth championship title in a row as slim: “There’s nothing going in Bayern’s favor at the moment, you have to say quite clearly,” said Hamann.
